The Book of Odes, by L. Cranmer-Byng, [1908], at sacred-texts.com
p. 41
THE EPHEMERAE
In black and yellow are clad
The wings of the ephemerae;
But my heart is sad, is sad,
Because they will not stay with me.
Many colours adorn
The robes of the ephemerae;
But my heart's forlorn, forlorn,
Because they will not rest with me.
In robes of hempen snow
Rise the ephemerae;
But my heart is full of woe
Because they will not bide with me.
