Chapter IX.—The Bishops of Antioch and Rome.

During this period upon the death of Flavian ⁹²⁸ Porphyry received the episcopate of Antioch, and after him Alexander ⁹²⁹ was set over that church. But at Rome, Damasus having held that bishopric eighteen years Siricius succeeded him; ⁹³⁰ and Siricius having presided there fifteen years, Anastasius held sway over the church for three years; after Anastasius Innocent [was promoted to the same see]. He was the first persecutor of the Novatians at Rome, and many of their churches he took away.
