40. POLYCLEITUS OF ARGOS

Polycleitus of Argos was active during the latter half of the fifth century B.C.

He wrote a treatise called Canon, on aesthetics.

1. The most difficult stage of the work is when the artists’ clay is within a nail's breadth ¹ (of completion?)

2. The right result comes gradually through many numbers.
